| Maggy Martinez is a dedicated public servant with an excellent and honest public record. She was "Legislator of the Year in 1999" ratified by the Puerto Rico House of Representative's resolution. Also, she is a founder Board Member representing the 13th Congressional District for Early Childhood & Learning, "Bright from the Start" for the State of Georgia, and she is an educator. It was in her formative years that she started in politics at the early age of 14 years. She was elected as the Chairperson of the Women in favor of statehood for Puerto Rico. From 1997 to 2000 she was the P.R. State legislator for District 40. She was a member in the Federal Issues Committee, Health Committee, Ethics Committee, Youth Committee, and she was the Chairperson of the Women's Affair Committee. Governor Pedro Rossello signed and approved a bill initiated by Martinez, so babies can be adopted within the first 12 months once the adoption process begins. Maggie Martinez holds a bachelor's degree from New York Institute of Technology in communications. She received 1979 the award Who's Who Among Students in Colleges and Universities. She is pursuing a Master Degree in education in Foreign Languages from the Leon University, Spain. Maggy speaks two languages: English and Spanish. Maggie lives in Hampton, GA with her husband Pedro Luis Maldonado also an educator. They have three sons: Mark Anthony a high school student, Fernando Luis a pilot for US Airways and Michael Angel a soccer coach. As a news reporter Maggy was the producer and moderator for Women in Power; WIPR channel 6, Women in Power; WUNO channel 13 and Women toward the year 2000; channel 3/40. Also, she was a news reporter for WUNO San Juan Broadcasting. Maggie Martinez born in New York City, December 11, 1956. She lived in Puerto Rico until 1974. She live in Georgia for the last nine years. Maggie is a firm believer that you should judge people by their content of their character and not by their race. Maggie believe that American nation has become a nation of many races that enriched our country and patriotism. The people that inspired her the most are Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and her adopted mother Emma Martinez Santiago. Her mother told her when she decided to run for the U.S. Senate, "Be like the cat that swims in ashes, but survive like the phoenix bird. Don't let anybody stop you." |
